Is there a housing grant out-there,so that my husband and I can buy a house so we can foster\adopt?
We cant have children and absolutely love them...A friend of a friend of mine got $8000. free government grant for down payment assistance ,this would even help, but the problem is ,she is so greedy that she wont give the web address up! I've searched the web and even went to one of those waste of time "free grant conferences", if I had the money to give them than I wouldn't need a grant , lol! Any help would be nice, thanks and God Bless! Thank you for your quick response to my question,I am aware that you can foster care and adopt without owning your own home as I was a foster child at one time , but I would rather own my own home so that I can assure the child or children that their home will never be taken away or replaced. But thank you for your answer and concern.

- you dont have to own a home to adopt
- The majority of housing grants are given within individual cities. Before the housing market went under, many cities had first-time homebuyer programs (some of which provided down payment assistance); however, most cities no longer have these programs because of budget deficits. If you qualify for an FHA loan, you will only need a minimum of 3% down; so for a $75,000 home that would be $2,250. Honestly, if you cannot save up money for a 3% down payment, you're not ready for home ownership. With a home, you'll have your mortgage payment (which will include the principle, interest, taxes, and insurance - so mortgage calculator amounts are generally not accurate), you'll have maintenance costs, possibly an increase in utilities, yard upkeep costs, etc. Many sellers will still provide some, if not all of the closing costs - but, not all sellers, so you may need another 3-5% for closing costs. Some people have been able to have their lenders roll the $8,000 tax credit into their loan, and therefore they can borrow against the future credit for a down payment. Your best bet, would be to contact a local realtor and ask about any first-time homebuyer programs in your city. You can also google your city and/or state for first-time homebuyer programs to see if any are still in effect. You may also want to go to a lender and get a pre-approval to see if you would qualify for a home loan. How is your and your husband's credit? You don't have to own a home to foster children or to adopt children - you can rent.
