List Only

Hello, this question is for craigslist users... Specifically Chicago craigslist... (And PayPal)...?

Alright, I am selling my iPod on craigslist. I originally had it listed for $100 and had a few offers, but one offer was from someone saying they would pay me via paypal, and an extra $60 to ship the iPod... but they gave me an area code to ship to in NIGERIA. Now, I have it relisted at $120, and I got an offer for $220 (An extra $100 to ship "overseas"). Now, what I want to know is how am I protected with PayPal, and is this a scam? Because this offer is hard to pass up. Thanks for any help... Also, If I give them my PayPal account ID, and they DO send me the money, is there anyway they can like take it back or anything? Thanks...

  1. It's a scam. I am in Chicago, and I have sold a lot of things on Craigslist. On Craigslist's website they actually have warnings about offers like this. I've traveled a lot overseas, and if they wanted an IPOD for under $220 US dollars they can get it at home. I would sell to a buyer within the Chicagoland area. I've had people offer me odd sums of money before, but that was only if I was willing to agree to accept paypal, cashiers checks, or money orders by mail. Unless you get the money first, don't do it.
  2. anhything in Nigeria is a scam.
  3. NEVER EVER DEAL WITH ANYONE IN AFRICA IT IS ALWAYS A SCAM!!!! PAYPAL WILL NOT PROTECT YOU!!!
  4. No, paypal or craigslist won't protect you, anytime I post anything on craigslist I always get a couple scammers. here are a couple rules of thumb, if they won't give you a phone number or an e-mail. if they don't ask any questions about the item. and this is the big one If it sounds to good to be true DON"T DO IT!!
  5. Save yourself the trouble, it sounds like a scam. and please don't generalize ppl its not always a scam with folks from Africa. But to my knowledge you are not protected. Anytime Ive done something with Craigslist, I deal face to face to avoid any other issues, bought and sold a couple of cars on there to. This is Chicago and you know we are classic for coming up with ways to get around things lol
  6. Contact Paypal at their toll free #..888-215-5506 This sounds very fishy
