First time apartment renters....help!?
(sorry for re-post...didn't get any answers before...please help!) This will be the first apartment my boyfriend and I move into. We have a dog that's 50 lbs and we found an apartment a while back that is perfect for us. It is very reasonably priced! We visited it and it is beautiful indoors and out! They will also allow our 50 lb dog. The only downside (and I mean the ONLY one) are the online reviews. There is NO good reviews at all. I don't know what to do. Here's the review site I looked at...I can't find any others... http://www.apartmentreviews.net/ratings/new-mexico/Albuquerque/the-retreat-at-candelaria.htm Here's their website.... http://www.retreatatcandelaria.com/1/Albuquerque-New-Mexico-Apartments/ PLEASE HELP US! What should we do? Are online reviews really reliable? I know the hotel ones aren't usually reliable. They all have bad experiences but I always like the hotels they hate... ??????

- what i would do is ask the landlord or whoever showed you the apartment about your concerns. For instance if the online reviews said that the building is extremely noisy. ask if there have been noise complaint problems in the past. IF they get uncomfortable their probably not telling the truth.
- Well, it's tricky to say. Thing is, it really sucks to move into your first place and hate it. Nonetheless. you seem to really want to move there. Can you make it short-term? Can you ask someone above the manager about the reviews (knowing this could make you lose the apartment)? Can you knock on some doors and talk to other tenants? IT's tough, but if you can afford to wait, it could be better. Hopefully you can find some more info and make the best decision.
- well sweetie, go over the reviews and reinspect the apartment with an experienced friend or family member. Keep the reviews in mind when you do inspect. Also BE SURE YOU SIGN A LEASE THAT ALSO LISTS LANDLORD CONDITIONS. The landlord typically isn't allowed inside the unit unless s/he gets the approval of the tenant. They must also fulfill all your needs within the contract in a timely manner. Landlord complaints are EXTREMELY common, but so long as you keep on regular rapport with them, are courteous, and give them edible goodies once in a while, you'll be just fine if not happy with your landlord. The landlord may not live with you, but you must still be courteous like roommates.
- sounds like an unorganized madhouse with incompetent managers.
