housing???

does anyone know if there is any other cheap housing options in hampshire? privately renting is expensive and you have to be unemployed to get a council house it seems. the council housing in my area goes on a points system and if you are employed you dont get many points. there are also few houses available this way. we have looked into moving to a new area but unless we move 50+ miles further north, prices are no different. we also want to move to a nice area thats safe for our daughter to grow up in.

  1. You could try the local housing associations. Your council will have a list. You may have to wait some time though
  2. I can't speak for Hampshire but in Bristol, if you want to get with a Housing association (Probably your best bet) you need to be on the council waiting list. The HA's don;t take as much notice of your points as the council, they are more after suitable tenants for affordable housing and a reasonable income is a plus in this case. HA's do rented or shared ownership properties. Good luck!
  3. How about moving to a less expensive area? It's always an option.
  4. If you and your husband were to seperate then as a single homeless parent you would be priority for a Housing Association house. Once you have one then there is nothing in the contract to say he can't move in with you should you decide to make a go of your marriage again!! Think about it!! ;-) xx
