How do I market my small business on Craigslist?

I contacted this guy about advertising my business on Craigslist and he took my money and took off! How do I advertise on Craigslist in a way that I won't get ripped off?? Also, I don't want to be a spammer.

1. If you have some announcement to make, then all you need to do is go on their website and post it. And Craiglist shouldn't never be one of your main "advertising place"... in fact, never ever consider craiglist as money making source or opportunity. think a little bit bigger!
