Legally can I do anything about a realtor or apartment locator selling my number to a telemarketing company?
I got a new phone about two weeks ago. I have never had any telemarketers call my phone at all. Today I contacted two apartment locators and one was very rude and hung up, the other seemed fine. Yet a few hours after that I have received 3 telemarketing calls on my phone coming from the Utah area which makes me think it was the rude one. Has this every happened to anyone before? What can I do? I know this would be hard to prove, but I wonder if I could google all the numbers, including the realtors and see if anyone else has put two and two together.

- Get on the "Do Not Call" list.
- No. It is not against the law to sell that kind of data. However, it's impossible to sell a list that fast. Stop the paranoia...it's just a coincidence.
- List your phone number on the DO NOT CALL LIST.
- no one may legally sell your number without your written permission but many biz's do cause it is so hard to prove who sold it. sorry it is likely that within 2 mo, you will get no more calls on that number of an unsolicited type
- Why only the rude one? The nice one can't sell it? The only thing you can do is block the offending callers and get on the Not Not Call list. Also, ask anyone you give your number to what their policy is on sharing numbers.
