how can i find cheap apartments in new york for international students?

my girlfriend is coming from thailand on may 30th so i need to do this quick any help would be nice already tried craigslist there's nothing there,and apartment guide is not for the "fixed income" if you know what i mean....

1. I find it hard to believe that there was nothing on craigslist. Did you look in sublets, roommates/shares and vacation rentals? I can't imagine finding temporary apartments cheaper than craigslist. How about a hostel? They're like $20/night (and up). 2. Try the Student Union where she will be studying. See if the school itself has housing listings for exchange or foreign students.
