can you help me with a comeback for a conservative guy i'm arguing with?

i said clinton made a lot of surplus for the states and bush ruined everything (b/c i read it on a blog) and he cam back with this: the surplus was right at the end of the dot.com bubble. whoever was pres after clniton would have had the same problem to deal with. and clinton closed a lot of military bases and greatly cut military spending. that was easy to do for a budget, but for who's benefit? many felt those cuts were done for political purposes. he knew that the nat'l defense would have to be built back up by the next pres. and the lack of defense spending under clinton gave the power to the terrorist. we had us embassy bombings, uss cole, just to name a couple. so the surplus went to the war. to have peace, a military presence is needed. clinton didn't have a war to deal with and he cut a ton of military spending. smart guy? nope. he was the one whose policies advocated deregulation. he started the snowball and it has kept rolling ever since. and i hope you're not confusing the BUDGET surplus and national DEBT. this is very important to understand the difference and i don't think you do. we've had a nat'l deficit for over a century without surplus. the last time we had a SUSTAINED budget surplus was when conservative repubs ran congress. (newt was the speaker of the house). how do i come back at him to make him look bad? if you don't want to answer my question, then DONT ANSWER!

  1. Tell him your an idiot
  2. Just admit he is correct and you have never been more wrong.
  3. 1. Clinton's failed policies are still Bush's fault. 2. Say "stop watching fox news." 3. Completely ignore his points and proceed to argue with your own. 4. Dismiss what he says because he has a different opinion than yours.
  4. Look IOUSA.COM And you will see that the 8 years of bush ( was a BIG MISTAKE ).
  5. Looks like he won. Your first problem is you believed a blog. If you think your going to win a debate blaming Bush for everything, your going to need lots of luck and lots of stupid people to debate.
  6. well he's right, but you can do what other democrats do and call him a racist republican who should stop listening to Rush Limbaugh.
  7. 1) You are not "debating" anybody in your office 2) Research, facts, and historical data does not come from blogs 3) Clinton had a Republican majority Congress for three of the four Congressional terms 4) George W. Bush was the absolute worst President in American history 5) Your "talking points" you are falsely attributing to this fictitious person are bogus. They are "talking points."
  8. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to politics, you have absolutely no idea. You should admit he was right. Seriously, he knows what he's talking about, you have no clue. He got his info from the ol' noggin and you got it from a blog. Proves even further, you don't know anything about politics.
  9. Simply point out the cost of the Iraq War per month being over 12 Billion US Dollars; funding hijacked to private contractors with no source of transparency; Bush's lack of regulating the banking and investment firms on Wall Street; the enabling Republicans who with blind faith enabled Bush to ruin the surplus from the previous Clinton Administration; etc. These are fact checked evidence that can easily be "Googled".
  10. It looks like he made a fairly logical argument with specific facts to back it up, which happen to be true. If you don't like president bush there are many more reasons you can go into for that. This argument however is over.
  11. Well, part of his problem is it was Regan who started deregulation long before Clinton, and under GW Bush, we now have one of the lowest total number of military personnel in active duty. The dot com bubble didn't affect the whole world like this melt down has. Dot com really only affected those withing a narrow industry. The problem that we face now is a result of the Regan years of eliminating regulation, and cutting back on the controlling agencies that watched the stock markets and other investment bankers. Sorry for him, the congress was Democratic controlled under Clinton when we had a budget surplus. Also, Newt was corrupt himself, I wouldn't rely on someone like that as an example of how to run congress.
  12. Clinton had a surplus, that is, the national debt was finally shrinking. Then Bush came along and doubled the debt. And he's completely wrong about the sustained budget surplus. Reagan and Newt NEVER had a sustained budget surplus. He's lying. Furthermore, our defense budget is now greater than the entire rest of the planets combined, including allies. So this guys saying that he's so scared of a bunch of low tech sand rats that he can only feel safe behind a shield bigger than the rest of the planet's combined. The mans a coward. The fact that we are spending so much on defense and are still not safe is proof enough that the military is an inefficient tool for combatting terrorism. How much are we spending per terrorist caught/killed? The level is unsustainable by any measure. Clinton reduced spending in a post cold war era. We've moved on since then. But to claim that he did it entirely to make his administrations numbers look good is completely disengenuous. It assumes he knew the future.
  13. The dot com bubble occurred in 1998, the budget surplus was in 2000. bush created the first recession with his corporate welfare program that squandered that surplus. It was the Republican controlled congress that chose the military bases to close. And bush's military spending bills didn't go into effect until after the U.S. had overran Afghanistan, it was Clinton's military that conquered that nation. The USS Cole bombing occured in October of 2000, was confirmed to be a strike by al Qaeda in December of that year and bush took over the Presidency a month later, what did he do again? Oh yeah, sent 43 million U.S. taxpayer dollars to the Taliban, say, how many of the hijackers bought first class tickets with that money? Then remind him 9/11 occured on bush's watch a month after he received an action brief warning of a terrorist strike. Then remind him that Bush doubled the national debt and remind him that we had a budget surplus from 1999 through Jan. 2001, sustained. And then point out how Clinton twice vetoed Gingrich's budget until the Republican congress backed down and did what Clinton wanted, and add how Gingrich had to leave congress in disgrace because of a kick back scandal.

  15. If bush was a great president and didn't make things worse, then why, after 8 years did he not right a wrongly-headed ship, no matter who's fault it is? If every president committed himself to no action and then blamed the guy before him, our country would have collapsed long ago. The surplus was at the end of the dot.com bubble, and we should have been looking for other ways to sustain the economy rather than hoping that any one wave would be endless. Bush refused to help the economy to look for other ways, and aided in the irresponsibility of businesses that lead us to this problem (with respect to home-owners, businesses took advantage of people who were searching for - and have been assured since this country's founding - the American Dream). Clinton cut back on defense spending because we weren't in a war, and the attack on the US that caused us to go to war in Iraq (9/11 of course) was not a result of this cut in spending. And the attacks he mentioned did not send us to wars we couldn't afford. Ultimately, if this is all Clinton's fault, it wouldn't have taken us 8 years to realize where we were headed - with or without a competent government. And when was the last time "nuh uh, it wasn't me" sufficed as an argument in the United States other than as response to "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar"?
  16. It's obvious that this guy is just a Limbaugh/GOP ditto-head. He is throwing out statements that he cannot prove. He is relaying what Republicans have been preaching for years. Tell him that he has nothing to worry about since Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the GOP. Ask him what his party has come to when they pick an entertainer to lead the GOP. Remember, the elected leader of the GOP was voted for less than two weeks ago and he is so insecure that he felt he had to make a public apology to Rush Limbaugh for some of the things he said about him. As long as Rush is alive, the GOP will have to live with their new leader. (lol) Don't you feel sorry for them. Tell him that the Republican Party lost their Identity at the November 2006 election. Tell him that the GOP needs a new brand name. Why is he blaming Clinton for the screw-ups that the GOP made for eight years. The Republican Congress gave Bush all of the money he asked for, for his war in Iraq. In fact, Bush had to borrow money to fight his war from 9 different countries. That made the US a debtor nation for the first time in American history. The GOP supporters will never stop putting the blame onto others for their mistakes. Remember, it's very easy to accuse but when asked to prove what they say, they stop dead in their tracks.
  17. u cant make him looks stupid, making a surplus has nothing to do with being a liberal conservative republican or democrat! some people are soo stupid and btw bill clinton got the surplus cuz he raised taxes on the rich which isnt fair i mean why should someone be penalized for being successful? idiot...
