1. He's an intelligent kid, but he has some conflict that he has to resolve. Ask him, no matter how much he pushes you away, what exactly is wrong. Don't put much pressure in the beginning, but if its needed apply it. He needs to let his emotions out and express them freely. Be his friend, he might end up killing himself. He sounds like he has borderline personality disorder from what I'm reading. The depression is obvious. Good luck! Add more details how it went
