How can I stay in section 8 housing?

I'm 18 years old and I live with my parents. If my parents decided to move out of the country, is there any way that I can keep this apartment? There are lease renewals and etc. I was wondering if I had to do everything under my father's name. Do I qualify for section 8 housing under MY name?

  1. In order to stay, you would have to qualify for section-8 on your own. There are different rules for different areas, so I can't tell you what the requirements are in your area. Generally, families and the disabled are served first. If you are able-bodied, you will be required to maintain employment in order to qualify. The waiting list can be long for housing assistance, so you may not know anything for years.
  2. No. Section 8 is not for single individuals You will be dropped
  3. No, you will have to move out when they do. You would have to soon anyway, you cna't stay if you do not work, and your working might be too much income to qualify anymore. Vouchers are not transferable, even if you qualify you will not get their voucher, it goes to the next family in line, you go to the end of the line.
