where can i get an adult tortoise in san diego?

i want an adult tortoise that is at least 8 inches. i have already checked craigslist and there is nothing. any suggestions on where i can find one? and how much would it cost? thanks.

1. The fact that your asking about an adult tortoise is a red flag. If you knew anything about tortoises you would be asking about a specific type of tortoise. The question itself tells everyone you have no idea how to care for a tortoise and this is most likely a whim on your part to get a pet. My advice to you would be to rethink the "tortoise as a pet idea."
2. I'm going to agree with fununtilitsover on this one. You should be asking about what kind, and you already have a rough idea of a price for the kind of tortoise you want if you knew what you were doing. Don't buy our of impulse, know what you're getting into. You should have EVERYTHING you need for your tortoise BEFORE you try to get one. I wouldn't be searching for an adult either (let alone on Craigslist), get a juvenile so you can try to tame it down a little. People often try to sell untamed adult reptiles (Iguana's are a great example). You don't seem to know what you're doing, and you really need to re-think things. You're going to hold the life of another creature in your hands, so don't let it down.
3. To an extent I agree with the above posts, although on the other hand, it is perhaps a good thing that you would like to offer a home to a needy tortoise. There are far too many of them here in the UK and in the US. I suggest you visit the California Turtle & Tortoise Club at http://www.tortoise.org and also http://www.anapsid.org to see if you really are prepared for such an undertaking. You should also see http://www.tortoisetrust.org After careful consideration, you can make your decision.
