Is Craigslist a legit place to look for castings for modeling and acting?

I don't know a lot about craigslist and just curious to know if it is a legit place to look for acting and modeling castings. I appreciate any information about it and any helpful tips...

  1. You may find a legit company, but it is very doubtful. I would suggest contacting your local agency. Alot of times, people on Craigslist are out to hurt you or use you...
  2. yes, but you have to be careful as the listings are not screened and there are some weirdos that may be listed also. If you are under 18, the only way you will be a model or actor is for your parents to make it happen for you.
  3. Surprisingly, yes, CL is a legit place for at least acting. Lots of student film casting notices get placed there, as do really low-budget films. Also bg open calls & regular bg spots get listed. If you submit to a CL casting notice, whatever info you get back should clue you in to how legit the notice is. For open call notices that only list an address with no co. name, I always do a Google with the address to find out the name attached to the address. I haven't had any problems with casting notices & CL. :)
  4. Not for modeling, most of the ads you see posted are either scam agencies or Nigerian modeling scams offering you a great job, but wanting to pay you upfront (with a counterfeit check) and have you wire some of that money to a fake photographer/studio/makeup artist. Or they are perverts/predators trying to get you alone to take nude pictures or even worse. There are too many cases of girls being raped by fake photographers/agents/scouts who searched for models online. http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2010/01/13/Man-allegedly-lured-rape-victims-online/UPI-74781263363933/ If you want to find unpaid modeling jobs like test shoots, your best bet is to sign up on sites like modelmayhem or onemodelplace.com - there are still scammers or perverts there but not as many. if you want paid work in magazines, runway, catalogs, ad campaigns, etc then you really need to get an agent. Never, ever, ever go to any modeling job alone - bring an older male if possible. And lay down your limits upfront - no nudity means no nudity. If you don't want to do lingerie, then tell them upfront.
  5. you can find open calls on there. but you need to be careful of what you go on and don't go to anything you find on there by yourself.
  6. Yes, it is! I got in a professional show that is doing quite well from Craigslist! But be careful. Sometimes they auditions aren't legit, if you're a minor, have your parents check it out first.
  7. PROCEED WITH CAUTION! There are some LEGIT castings on Craigslist, but at the same time there are A LOT of SCAMMERS like Explore Talent that use Craigslist as a way to lure people into their scams. Here are THE ONLY LEGIT online sites that you can get work from: ALL SITES NOT LISTED BELOW ARE QUESTIONABLE! In LA: -Actorsaccess.com -LACasting.com -NowCasting.com -Backstage.com (they have a weekly newspaper that you can get at stores that lists castings) In NY: -Actorsaccess.com -NYCASTING.COM -NYCASTINGS.COM -Backstage.com (they have a weekly newspaper that you can get at stores that lists castings) Other markets: -ActorsAccess.com -Backstage Free but proceed with Caution: -Craigslist -Mandy.com -Castingcallsearch.com Know that you’re ONLY going to see at most 30% of the work out there. ONLY agents have access to the serious jobs or the other 70%. To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won't see you unless you're SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading. You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways: -Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too. -Attend a showcase and impress them. -Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you're interested in DON'T -Email them unless they tell you to. IT'S UNPROFESSIONAL! -Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL! -Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE! -Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent's ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print. 8. Yes proceed with Caution. Craigs list has a lot of scammers on there because it's a free place to advertise. Just make sure it is a legit company that has been in business for a while. Make sure you go to their website and check them out with the BBB.
