Criags List Job & Credit Card Scam... Will I be the victim of fraud?

I applied for a job through Craigs List and Friday morning I got a reply email from the HR manger of GNC Health asking me to submit a credit report to them. I did a google search online and nothing suspicious popped up so I sent this person my credit report and now Im a little nervous as I believe I may be the victim of a scam. I am very desperate to have a job right now and thinking back I was very foolish... anyhow this morning I put a freeze on my credit report but is there anything I can do to protect myself. Please no sarcastic comments I know what I did was foolish now Im asking for help. I couldn't possibly be the only person in the world to fall for this so can someone please give me advice? Thanks I only put the freeze on my Experian since that was the report I sent but should I also freeze Transunion and Equifax as well?

  1. Freeze the other ones today. No company will ask for a credit report upfront - none. Remember, if anyone steals your credit - you will not be financially responsible. Yes.. you will have to deal with disputes, and mailing letters. Keep good files of everything you do including the date of ever letter you may send and any phone call you may make. Send every letter certified mail. /
  2. Yes......all three........you will have to do it in writing.....do it now.......you got scammed........learn something........they have all your data now.......do it quick........fax would be better...... Judy says you won't be responsible........but she didn'tt say your credit will be in the toilet and your life will be miserable for a very long time.......you will have to prove your inicent.......sorry.....
  3. GNC health may be legitimate, but that doesn't mean that the person who emailed you really was from GNC Health.
  4. Yes freeze all three, that locks down your credit files. No one will be able to open credit lines without an inquiry. And in the future, never send anyone a credit report. If this were a genuine employment process that it something they could have done themselves with your consent.
  5. The person was not the HR manager of GNC Health. GNC Health is a legitimate company; this person is not. The person was pretending to be with GNC Health in order to get your credit information. You are the victim of a scam. Yes, you should freeze them all.
  6. As someone who has been in the Identity profession for years, I can tell you that you are not the first (nor will you be the last) to fall for this! The highest priority is to mitigate the damage. You are going to need to do two things right away: Report this to the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en AND you will also need to file a police report. It is absolutely imperative that you protect your financials by freezing your credit. Since you are an ID theft victim you may be eligible for free security freeze services as provided by your state's security freeze law. You will need to provide all three bureaus with an ID theft report, a police report or similar documents in writing as required by your state, by certified mail - return receipt requested.. Equifax Security Freeze P.O. You need professionals who can review and monitor your entire identity, as most of these craigslist Identity Scams lead to immigration fraud, medical fraud, employment fraud, etc. Unfortunately, the majority of ID Theft companies are horrible and will not be able to even FIND, much less FIX any damages! There are only a few I would even come close to recommending and I have seen people get banned for recommending companies, so please email directly (identityspecialist at yahoo) and I will gladly tell you who can help! Hope this helps: LRK
