Looking for a job in Chicago?

I am looking to relocate to Chicago in the next couple of months, and I currently live in Nashville. I am wondering what the best ways are of getting a job, especially since I live a good distance away? I have good experience in technical support and customer service. Over the weekend, I have pretty much replied to every relevant job posting on careerbuilder, craigslist, and monster. I have also registered with about twenty temp agencies. I am wondering if there is anything more I can do to improve my chances of getting an interview? Thanks

  1. Got any friends that live here? Relatives? You gotta network. Sometimes the job that you're looking for is not listed and you have to know somebody at the office to find out about it. Occasionally there are conferences and meetings of tech support groups listed in the Sun-Times business section (they list conferences, conventions, meetings). Go to a few of those and try to meet people. You might even try calling a few places cold to just see if you can talk your way into a job. Who knows? Maybe they need someone like you and didn't know it.
  2. Secutity jobs are going to be your best bet. If not that, try a guard at a prison. It's not near as bad as people make it out to be. Easy job, Great pay.
