How to decorate white walls in apartment?

I am currently switching apartments in my building, because the new one is slightly larger and has been renovated. I painted my walls a light chestnut color, so much of my furniture and art is of Middle Eastern style with rich browns, reds, and golds. I am not planning on painting my new apartment, so how do I style it without having the furniture weigh down on the feel or look out of touch. I want the apartment to have a feel of light and airy - is it possible?

  1. with paint lol....just kidding. you should get some old movie posters or paintings...i dont know.
  2. dressing the room ie windows rugs throws for settees prints pictures for walls at least you can take them with you
  3. because of the rich colors of your furniture etc...It will look great with pure white walls. Try some bronze and metal wall art - http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/38435/6h/www.improvementscatalog.com/images/en_US/local/products/248x/wall-art-88906zz.jpg http://www.greatcircleforge.com/images/iron_accessories_and_gifts/lily-iron-ring-3.jpg These will give it a modern, yet rustic look. Also, maybe a painting in a sepia tint - http://fineartamerica.com/images-medium/sepia-sail-boat-john-breen.jpg Try some light cream chiffon curtains with contrasting brown tie-backs, or heavy brown suede curtains - depending on the amount of furniture and where you place them. Longer curtains make the window look bigger, and therefore the room looks bigger. Happy decorating!!
  4. Hey i had a similar issue when i moved into my place a couple months back. One suggestion i have is for use things like mirrors, decals and things of that nature. The idea worked out well in my place. I got the ideas from this blog and apparently now they have a video on the subject too. Happy Decoraing!!! :) http://blog.forrent.com/apartment-decorating-tips/how-to-decorate-walls-without-painting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5G9ta1z2-A&feature=PlayList&p=635E697444A6FD01&playnext_from=PL&index=30
  5. A good little trick for interior design is placing a mirror on the wall. This gives the effect that the room is bigger then it is and not to mention its also quite nice to have a mirror in the house to check how you look before you leave the apartment! Harveys furniture have a good range of mirrors that may be just the thing for you: http://bit.ly/dA8jYA
