Employment agencies using your credit report for a background check?

Hi! In this day and age would they, and, do employment agencies use your credit report for background checks? What do they look for, if they do? What items would be considered negative strikes against you in consideration for employment? I am starting to go out to look for work. My credit report is so horrible since being laid off a year ago. 1. It is possible for a credit report be requested if you are seeking employment with a financial institution because they wouldn't want to hire someone who is hopelessly in debt for fear of theft. Even then it might not negatively affect you. A lot depends upon the laws of your local area are concerning background checks for employment purposes. An employer will take advantage of all checks available if willing to pay the cost and to take the time to do it. Entry level positions probably wouldn't rate that kind of scrutiny.
