I need info for low income housing in california?

My husband and I are getting a divorce and I have to move out with the kids ASAP. I am currently unemployed and don't know how I will pay for a roof over our heads. Also, this was a bit unexpected so its not like I have a deposit saved or anything (and who's going to rent to a chick with no job). What low income housing is available at the moment, how long does it take to get, etc? Thanks for your help! Please don't spam my question, i will report you

  1. no such thing,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry
  2. Housing programs are administered at the county level. It will depend where you live. Here is a link for Los Angeles county: http://www.hacla.org/ google the name of the county where you live + low income housing Section 8 programs take time to apply for. You might try contacting local churches, the Salvation Army to see if there are any voucher programs available. Good luck!
  3. I was on Section 8 in California and had to wait for a VERY long time. So good luck...
  4. First thing, you need to go to court to get child support and household/alimony payments from your husband started asap (if applicable for your situation - if you been together long enough, if kids are his etc) Then you'll have an income to work with as far as finding another place within your budget. In the mean time, look for employment and apply for emergency housing through section 8. You may have to wait a few months, emergency housing does take time, but it sure the beat the year + waiting list many other families are on.. Till then talk to friends or relatives about staying with them.
  5. Low income housing still requires you to have some income. It is not a quick fix either. The waiting lists are years long in most areas. Some are not even taking applications. I know it is not what you want to hear but you may have to find a women's shelter. If you could find a place to stay at until you get a job there are sometimes some churches or other local charities that will help with the a security deposit.
  6. Before you move out, go to Family Court and get an order for child support and emergency support so you have some money to move with. You have to call around to charities and social service agencies they are not government, and find one offering apartment deposits or rent assistance. There are many people on waitlists for subsidized housing. It depends where you are. Call the welfare office and get a referral to a shelter or whatever they can offer. County social services is who you must call.
  7. The only housing you would qualify for would be a homeless shelter, each county has one. The Salvation Arny can direct you. There are no other programs for unemployed people with no money. You would get in right away, although a social worker may question why you would remove the children from their home and not leave them with their father.
