Getting a job at walmart and can't find social security card?

I applied for a new card, but the printout social security gave me is not valid for employment purposes. I am supposed to start in 2 days. I am going to call walmart in the morning, but am trying to ease my mind for the night if possible.

1. IMMEDIATELY call Social Security. Their contact info is at socialsecurity.gov.
2. I had the same issue at a job a few years ago. I took in the letter from Social Security stating that I had applied for a replacement card (which also listed my social security number) as well as other forms of ID - driver's license and birth certificate to satisfy the I-9 requirements, and was allowed to work until the new card came through.
3. Like the other poster said, as long as you have the letter from SS showing that they are in the process of getting you another card plus giving them all the other things required for the I9, you should be OK to work until the actual card shows. I used to manage there-what you describe is somewhat common so don't worry. Now, get some ZZZZsss!
