Will the 290,000 jobs gained through government jobs help the economy or cause a further decline?

How does the Government hiring 290,000 more people and spending more money help the economy? Will the 290,000 jobs mean a lot to the 3.7 million who have lost their jobs since Obama has been President?

  1. Of course it will hurt us because government jobs are a liability. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/feb/02/burgeoning-federal-payroll-signals-return-of-big-g/
  2. It will damage the economy more, since the non-govt people are the ones who have to PAY the Govt workers. Obama has only damaged the Corp. Private Sector! He hates capitalism unless its govt controlled capitalism, that will be more corrupted!
  3. Unemployment is still rising to a 15% national average. People are just desperate for absolutely anything now... so they are accepting any job, and that is the 290,000 job gain
  4. Sure it will help. If the jobs are permanent and focused in certain areas, they will lead to secondary jobs being created. By the way, Federal employees pay taxes too. So 20% to 30% of those salaries will be returned to the Government.
  5. It will do immeasurable economic damage. Why? Because the government and bureaucracies manufacture nothing and provide no log-term benefit to the GDP. government jobs are like empty calories.
