Where should I live in downtown Chicago?

Hi. I'm from San Diego and I am going to live in Chicago from July to Sept. My budget is $400-$500 and all I'm looking for is a bedroom, doesn't matter if it's incredibly small. I just prefer a place that's in or near downtown or has Belmont's environment. My Questions: 1. What are the streets/neighborhoods in or near Downtown Chicago? (that way when I look on craigslist, I'd be able to recognize the location) 2. Will I be able to find a room with my budget? 3. any recommendations/advice about apartment searching or Chicago in general? Thanks I really appreciate it.

  1. Downtown Chicago is REALLY expensive. It would cost anywhere between $1500+ to rent a place downtown by yourself. You may be able to find a roommate but you would still be in the $800+ range. You may want to look further north or in the south loop area (although that is pricy too). You mentioned the Belmont environment-what part of Belmont of describe the "environment"?
  2. It is gong to be hard to find an apartment for 400-500. Downtown is very pricy, along with the northside. I know though in the wrigleyville area they have lofts for around 500. If not you can come to the southside and find some 1 bedroom apts. or coach/cottage houses for that prive. If you are looking on craigs list for downtown it will mainly say downtown. For further north of chicago you will find titles like "Wrigleyville" Lincoln Park" "Lake View" or look for an address That goes with the N in the Middle FE: 2134 N. clark. For more southside you have bridgeport, canaryville, midway is probably the best area. Hoped i helped Fein
