How is cable set up in your apartment in an apartment complex?
Kind of a silly question, but I was jsut curious. I currently live in my parents house and I'm gonna be moving out and into my own apartment. I've been browsing listings and noticed that some don't include cable services. I was curious how would the cable guys set up cable in an apartment that didn't already include cable services, for example the wiring and so on? I've seen how it was done at my house, but I imagine its different for an apartment?

- Usually the cable outlet already exist in the apartment and it is just a matter of paying for the cable company to hook up the existing wire to receive the service. If it the cable outlet doesn't exist, you just need to get permission from the landlord to allow the cable company to install it.
- Unless the apartment is very old, the wiring should be in place for cable tv. Some apartment complexes may include basic cable tv as an amenity, and you would pay extra if you wanted to upgrade to more channels. Some apartment complexes advertise cable tv just to make their list of amenities seem longer, but you may have to pay for it on your own. Be sure to ask about that, and any other utilities that may or may not be included. Also, be sure to ask about any other charges, such as parking.
- In my apartment complex we have a basic cable special $42 a month that we just include in with our rent. I wanted more channels and a cable box so i paid the extra to my cable company. If the place your moving too does not have it just call the cable company up and they will install it for you and sometimes will charge an instillation fee.
- The way I understand it, is that when an Apartment advertises that they have Verizon or Comcast, that means that they have some special deal worked out with whatever company they say they work with. However, usually you are able to choose your own cable company unless there is some other reason for a certain company being advertised such as other companies not having lines set up in that area. However, most Apartments are where more than one Cable Company is present. I've never been in an Apartment that didn't have the necessary wiring for a Cable hookup.
