Can an employment tribunal claim be informally settled despite receiving a hearing date?

I received a letter from my solicitor regarding my full hearing date for my employment tribunal claim (it's in 4 months' time). I can't get hold of him for some reason, and am in a bit of a state. I would like to know whether the claim could still be settled informally before the hearing date, and whether there can be more than one meeting with the conciliator/mediator?
