How do i check the safety of an apartment?
I have a wife and a baby girl and i am worried about thier safety. I have tried to look up thier ratings on apartment ratings and its a mixed bag i cant tell who is lying and some look suspicious , i looked at the place and it isnt horrible but i could see why it could be potentially dangerous. I know theres a risk all the time when it comes to apartments and crime has no address but i just want my family to be ok , i thought about buying a gun to protect myself and only keeping it in the home , i just dont know what to do and how to do it.

- Usually anymore, you can look up the local police station's website and type in the address and it will bring up a 'crime map' and it shows the addresses nearby or within a 5 mile radius and what the call was for, whether it was a car accident, kidnapping, robbery, assault, you name it. Also, before I move, I always try to drive around the neighborhood at night and see if there are people hanging out that don't 'lool' like they should be there... Good Luck!
- You can always contact the local police department for crime stats in the area.
- When I was renting, someone suggested going over at different times and sitting outside to see what goes on. Fri and Sat nights are always the biggest crime times but you may want to also look one morning and early afternoon. Also, our county police publishes daily, on their website, its crime calls from the previous day. Even though they only provide the block number and street name, you can start to pinpoint the general area with the most activity . the local newspaper probably has a weekly crime log as well and you could do the same thing with it.
- Call the local police department and ask them to share with you any incidents that may have occurred at the apartment complex.
