Is Western Career College (Carrington college) a good school for Criminal Justice?
Hello, I was reading online about Western Career College's Criminal Justice program and it sounds impressive (with the opportunity of graduating with an AA within a year and half). But Their program seems to be more focused on "security" or "loss prevention" rather than on becoming a sworn police officer. Their placement program looks like they are completely focused on only security jobs as well. I am looking to become a police officer and not just security. Would going to this College help me with my goals or would a community college 2 year AA program work better? Anyone know hands on what this school is like? What the course is like? Thank you! David

- Don't attend this school unless you have a burning desire to be a Mall Cop your entire career.
- If it is a properly accredited school, then I would think it would be just as good as a community college. I would strive to get a 4 year degree though. A 4 year degree is much more impressive than a 2 year degree. Having a 4 year degree might also help you get promoted after becoming a police officer, and it will provide you with more opportunities after you retire. So, I would find out what school's classes transfer best, and then attend that one. Wherever you choose to attend, get the highest grade point average that you can. Also, there are many other degrees that are good for police officers. You don't have to, and many people recommend not to, get a crimal justice degree. There are many good degrees for police officers. Accounting, communications, computer science/information technology, a foreign language, forensic science, photography, and psychology are some examples. Best of luck!
