  1. cheerios is one...
  2. Fish oil, olive oil, anything with omega 3s or omega 6s. And avoid trans fats.
  3. Keep in mind that any sugar you eat or any carbohydrate you eat that turns to sugar in your body will increase the "bad" small, dense VLDL, increase your triglycerides, and lower your "good" HDL. VLDL is a precursor to triglycerides. This means to avoid sugar, high fructose corn syrup, refined flour, cakes, pastries and large amounts of alcohol. Rice, Cheerios, cookies, crackers, breads, potatoes, etc. will also turn to sugar in your body and lower your good HDL. The old belief that "natural" saturated fat leads to coronary artery disease is a myth. Things that raise your good HDL are actually fats... healthy fats found in: Organic butter from grass-fed cows Organic whole milk from grass-fed cows Organic full-fat yogurt with live cultures Hard cheese like Feta and Parmesan "Free-range" eggs Wild caught Salmon and other fish high in Omega-3 fatty acids Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil Pure 100% cold pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil Avocados Walnuts (and other nuts) Try to eat fish at least two or three times a week. Canned sardines, tuna fish, and canned salmon are better than no fish at all. Avoid using margarine, shortening, highly refined polyunsaturated vegetable and seed oils and any foods that contain "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" oils.... like peanut butter. Good "natural" fats raise the good HDL, lower triglycerides, and improve your overall lipid profile. The best way of determining your risk for coronary artery disease is by dividing your HDL into your Triglycerides... TG/HDL. This was confirmed by Harvard Medical School. It should be as close to 1 or 1.5 as possible. Also try to keep your triglycerides under 60 mg/dL Also keep in mind that Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are "essential fatty acids" that must be consumed and consumed in the correct balance. If you don't consume them at all, you eventually develop heart disease. The human body cannot make them and they are critical to human survival. Commercial farming has destroyed the natural one-to-one balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids that once existed before the 1940's in milk, butter, eggs, and now with farm-raised fish. This is why it is important to eat these foods from "organic foods" or in "wild caught" fish. Omega-6 is naturally "inflammatory" and omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory. When you get too much Omega-6 in relation to Omega-3, it is inflammatory to your body and arteries. Ninety percent of Americans are not getting enough natural omega-3 fatty acids.
