How can I meet bandmates in Los Angeles?

I am a singer songwritter guitarplayer who really wants to start a band. I don't know anybody because I just moved down here. I really want to find a drummer and bass player. I don't have any good recorded stuff to show people. I am finding that stuff like craigslist doesn't really work for someone who is unproven. Are there any resources in LA for finding like minded bandmates?

1. Start playing on your own down at Venice Beach and places like that. You have to get out there where people can see you, then if you're good enough or interesting enough at least, someone will stop by.
2. Since you are starting out. You really need to make your own demo CD. It doesnt have to be fancy, but you gotta have something to show people like what you can do musically. Also, go to www.recycler.com and look in the section "Music"...then go look in the section "musicians seeking bands". They have some great ads in there too. Also, start your own Myspace page too to attract attention. Also, check out local LA rock magazines like Mean Street, Performer, www.Indiebible.com too. Also, go to the Guitar Center store on Sunset blvd in Hollywood,Ca too and pick up some free mags there too. Good luck
