Where to look for a July-Sept sub-let room to rent in New York City in 2011?

Hello, I am an 22 year old, English male looking for advice on where i could find a suitable place to stay for the 3 months that i will be living in New York from July - September, 2011. Ideally, i'm looking to sub-let someone's room in a house share but i don't even know where i would start looking. I've been told craigslist but would like to get it sooner rather than later to ease my peace of mind and i'm not sure many plan this far in advance to let their property. Are there any other options or ideas that i could try? I'll be on a work placement at a Graphic Design agency on 6th Avenue for the entire time i'm here, so i'm not really after a full on tourist place to stay.
