New York City Bartending?

I recently moved to NY from California and am lookin to break into bratending here. I've barbacked before, and am currently on call at a bar in Alphabet City, but they have little use for me as of lately. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips, suggestions or references to help get me started/ Do you know of any place hiring? Also, I went around Alphabet City dropping off my resume, and have been avidly applying to ads on craigslist, but am wondering if there are any other sites that might help me out, or another approach I should take to this. I've looked around, but a lot of sites tend to be spam. Thank you!

1. i think your approach so far is correct. you have your foot in the door. stick it out. it's not as easy to get a job tending bar as you think. good luck
