How does employment with a temp agency work?

I'm considering looking for work with a temp agency, but I'm unsure of what to expect. How flexible is the scheduling? How much notice do you get for available jobs? How likely is it that you can turn temp work into part/full-time employment?

  1. depends on what agency and what job they place you in some places will that you get placed in end up wanting you to stay on fulltime
  2. what do u mean by flexible scheduling? Many office temp jobs require some orientation and training to get used to software systems or other duties. Other temp jobs also need some training...so if you want to work one day or three..and say goodbye...try another company next week ..that is not real good. If you want to be hired full time, you might want to try a few different agencies and find out how much the temp agency's FEE is to the employer....The bigger the FEE, the more the employer may balk at hiring you full time. You can ask the agent you speak to ..or other temps.
  3. if you are talking about office type work - most temp jobs are full day work - assignments could be anywhere from one day to 10 months - very little flexibility - you're talking basically 8-5 - give or take - Mon-Friday depends on the assignment - could start next day or next week I have gotten my last 4 perm jobs as an accountant starting as a temp - going back 16 yrs
