Is it safe to send a money order for something on craigslist?

I have been looking everywhere for a certain mini fridge for my nieces graduation present and I only found one listed on craigslist in dallas texas. I live in chicago and she agreed to ship it but the only payment she is willing to take is a money order. Is this safe?

  1. It is as safe as a check. Be sure to keep the money order receipt as proof of payment. There is always the possibility of being scammed on Craigslist. At least you will have the actual address that you send the money order to. ₪ ʎəɿʞɹɐq ₪ Monday, November 29, 2010
  2. Yes it is okay but you have to make sure the person is not going to take it but you should have a paypal account so you can transfer money over easier.
  3. It's safer than a check since they can't pull your account numbers from it. Chances are they're fine and there won't be any problem. Just sign a contract with her, get some basic contact info and it should be OK. Most people are legit on that site. Especially people selling non standard items like mini fridges. Another option is to use PayPal since that gives you some recourse to track them down as it's electronic. I have to wonder if you're really saving money by buying this used instead of new. You might get a dumpy fridge when it's all over.
