Where can I find a trustworthy, licensed babysitter in Los Angeles. Is there any agency somewhere?

I'm not willing to consider craigslist or some random person- I'm trying to find a legitimate agency.

  1. I went to a Nanny school in Portland, OR, that also hires out the graduates. Maybe there is something like that in your area. Look in the phone book for Nanny agencies. I know they can be a bit pricey, but these people are well trained and are screened (background and criminal checks are done, etc). When talking to them, ask if they do the background and criminal checks on the ones they send out, how much they will charge you, etc. I am sure you will find someone in one of those places. Being in such a large town such as Los Angeles, you should be able to find all kinds of Nanny agencies since there are so many people with nannies in that area (as far as I know). As for Craigslist, that is how my boss found me (I am a live-in nanny and caregiver). You can do background and criminal checks yourself. As far as I know, you just have to pay a fee to a company to have them do this once you get the person's personal information. If you do decide to go this way, you may want to interview people first and see who you like the best (maybe two or three of them even) and do the checks on them. I would do it on the first choice and if that doesn't check out, then go to the next choice, and so on. You will know, and so will your children, if the person you choose is a good one and if they are a good fit for your family. You can also look for online nanny agencies where you look for them on their website, or go to Yahoo groups and look for a local group for nannies and those looking for nannies. They can also give you ideas where to go.
