Is there any private party I can rent a car from?

I am under the 25/21 year old age limit, so I can't rent from the big guys like Hertz/Enterprise, etc. Is there anyway around this? I need to do this in Los Angeles, and there are a few people on Craigslist renting their personal automobile, but overall it is very scarce. Any other ideas besides Craigslist anyone can think of? Thanks!

1. There probably is someone somewhere who will rent you their vehicle. However, for your own protection, there are several factors that you should take into consideration. The first is whether or not the vehicle is insured, by whom, and if the insurer permits rental of the vehicle. Second, will your vehicle insurance protect you against loss in the event of an accident in the rented vehicle? Third, you should prepare a contract clearly spelling out who is responsible for what, and what recourse the other party has in the event of a problem. Also be aware that many insurance policies that authorize the rental, or temporary use, of a vehicle also require the person renting, or using, that vehicle is at least 25 years of age, has a valid operator license, and is free of the use of controlled substances.
