Can you take a number off the do not call list?

Ok so the old number i used to have, i put it on the do not call list..well now that i dont have it anymore,can i take it off??Or is it on there forever? I want to take it off because i think whoever gets it next should be able to choose whether they want telemarketing calls or not.
