Should illegal aliens in public housing be evicted?

Should public housing tenants who have illegal aliens living with them be evicted? Is Arizona again leading the way for enforcement to rid us of illegals? If your a pro-illegal, give me one reason illegal aliens should receive public housing? Anti-illegals already know why they should not. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arizona: Bill would require eviction of undocumented immigrants from public housing: Wednesday, Feb. 2 By Lauren Gambino Cronkite News Key facts about SB 1222:– Would require housing applicants to prove citizenship or legal residency. Would prohibit public housing authorities from helping a person who cannot prove citizenship or legal residency. Would require public housing authorities to evict all residents of a dwelling unit if a resident allows a person who is in the U.S. illegally to live there. Would increases the penalty for violating legal status requirements for public housing from a Class 2 to a Class 1 misdemeanor. PHOENIX – A Republican legislator is pushing for a state law cutting off public housing benefits for undocumented immigrants even though the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development already requires applicants to prove citizenship or legal residency. Sen. Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, the sponsor of SB 1222, said Arizona has the right to enforce its own requirement. “We have to take back our state because our federal government is no longer the federal government, it is the national government,” he said Wednesday to fellow members of Senate Government Reform Committee. “And this bill is an assertion by the state to take back its rights.” While HUD allows households that include legal residents and undocumented immigrants, Biggs’ bill would require public housing authorities to evict all residents from a rental unit if any resident is in the U.S. illegally. Among other things, the bill would increase the penalty for employees, including supervisors, who fail to report undocumented immigrants receiving benefits from a Class 2 to a Class 1 misdemeanor. The committee endorsed Biggs’ bill Wednesday on a 5-2 vote, with Democratic Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Steve Gallardo of Phoenix voting against it. Sinema said the bill, as an effort to challenge federal authority, could lead to litigation. “If this passes Arizona will be defending itself in court again,” Sinema said. Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City, said it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure that taxpayer dollars aren’t being spent to provide housing benefits to undocumented immigrants. “It’s taking my money and giving it to someone else,” he said. “Under common law, this is called stealing.” In 2004, Arizona voters passed an initiative requiring state and local governments to verify the identity of all applicants for certain public benefits. Biggs’ bill would list public housing among those benefits. Anjali Abraham, a public policy director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, said the bill would place public housing employers in a Catch-22 between state and federal law. “They are in a no-win situation and will have to choose between one law and the other,” Abraham said. http://cronkitenewsonline.com/2011/02/bill-would-require-eviction-of-undocumented-immigrants-from-public-housing/ greasy, you have used several different alias to answer my question. 1. Yes. How can you justify allowing foreign law breakers to get govt benefits when so many law-abiding US citizens are in need of housing assistance?
  2. NO! that is inhumane and just wrong!. It's no surprise that the Hate State of Arizona would push for something like this. You must not know anything about the property management business. Phoenix apartment complex owners are foreclosing on their properties because Hispanics (legal & illegal) are leaving Arizona because of the immigration laws. Illegals live in areas that some Americans wouldn't even consider driving through, so trying to get them to live there is a lost battle, and that means more and more vacant apartments/homes. The giant apartment complex across the street, once brimming with tenants, is two-thirds vacant. 3. Illegal immigrants are breaking the law. They need to not only be evicted but deported. We need to take care of our own first.
  4. Stanely is right. It's going to cripple an already hurting economy and white people don't want to live in those areas, so let them keep living there and paying their bills.
  5. Only if you want to cripple our economy even more and have more people living on the streets. People like you obviously don't realize how it affects businesses. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2010/06/29/20100629arizona-immigration-law-affecting-businesses.html Arizona's illegal immigrants departure affecting businesses
  6. YES ! Too many citizens are in dire need yet cannot get help because public housing are used by illegals ! We have Veterans that need help, older citizens, and families that are homeless. YES eviction is the beginning of the the solution !
  7. Seems odd that you would even have to ask that question but the fact that Americans can't agree on whether or not we should be supporting the poor of foreign countries is exactly why states like California are broke.
  8. Yes. The waiting lists for public housing are years long. Only citizens should be allowed to receive housing benefits. Illegals get public housing for their "children" and then stay there for years and years making the wait for citizens much longer.
  9. Yes, evicted from the public housing, and the country as well! Of course, the Feds will sue Arizona over this, but other states are going to follow. You know, there are areas of the south and west sides (Chicago) that were rundown with vacant buildings and lots. People with money started to buy the buildings and lots, and now those areas are liveable again. So, if the illegals are abandoning the neighborhoods gentrification will renew them and make them more appealing to CITIZENS for habitation.
  10. they dont have the same rights as an american citizen, do they get medicare? NO, do they get social security? NO.. you DONT KNOW what is like to live in real poverty, to live without a job, without money to spend, without food to eat, without clothes to wear, without a car to drive, without a school to study, without a home to live, without nothing... you were so lucky to be born in the UNITED STATES aka "land of opportunities". What would you do if you were in ther place and about to get deported back to a 3rd world country that does NOT have all the benefits you wanted to have? just think for a second, we are all humans and WE ARE NOT PERFECT! BUT we deserve everything GOD gave to us!!, why do most people see illegals as "aliens" ppl from other planet? why? why such treatment to these poor ppl that in all ways want to live a better life? they dont get social security, no medicare, no welfare, no jobs, no money, no food no clothes, no nothing in their home countries. I know that you may think "well that is not my problem", yea maybe is not, but remember, we are all humans! we are all equeal!, just because your not "legal" doesnt mean you dont deserve a piece of bread, just as you deserve a piece of bread an illegal deserves it too!
  11. 100% yes!
