Ashworth Online College or US Career Institute Online College?
I am looking to take a Veterinary Assistant program online. I have narrowed it down to Ashworth or US Career Institute. http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/programs/career-diploma/veterinary-assisting/ http://www.uscareerinstitute.com/veterinaryspecialist.asp I have looked at Reviews, Forums, & even their Facebook Fan Pages Both look Promising but I am still not sure which one I should choose to go to. I have looked into Penn Foster, Stratford, and a few others and all I find is bad reviews left and right. I am not able to go to a University due to my Emotional State & lack of knowledge for Core Classes due to not be taught right and properly since I was hospitalized all my life from age 9 to 16 off & on. Please do not Criticize me for this. I have 10+ years of Animal Experience & Volunteered at a Shelter for 3 years and even Assisted the Vet Tech so I have the capability to do this Career.

- Looks like you've really done your homework which will pay off in the end. I say U.S. Career is a good choice and worth the call if nothing else. I guess ultimately it depends on what you are looking for but my money is on U.S. Career. Best wishes
- Understand that these educational opportunities are of widely varying quality because there is no oversight body to ensure that a good education is offered. There are a handful of certification programs that are designed and approved by veterinary professional organizations or that are offered by colleges which also offer accredited veterinary technology programs and these are better choices for someone who wants to be a veterinary assistant. All of these programs offer certification as a veterinary assistant, but this certification is not legally recognized or required by any state in the US. There are, in fact, no education or training requirements for working as a veterinary assistant in ANY state in the US and these certification programs aren't held in very high regard. So, you are spending money that you don't have to spend and likely will learn little more than what you have learned in working with animals for several years. These certifications will also not gain you more money and you are likely going to end up a minimum wage employee with or without them. You would be better off, if you want to spend time and money on an education, in getting a degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program so that you can be credentialed as a veterinary technician.
