The low income housing authority bought the apartment building I live in can they evict me?
The low income housing authority bought the apartment building I live in and the bitchy manager came to our door today and asked me if she can do a inspection she didn't give a days notice or anything. So I refused. Heres how it went: Lady: Hi can I inspect your suite today? Me: No. Lady: No? Me: No. Lady: No? Me: No. Lady: No? Me no. Lady ok thank you. Then she walked off. Also as new owners are they allowed to change all the locks on the doors and have a key?

- HUD housing must inspect every unit of a complex for their books as they are paying for people to live there, inspections are done quite frequently and if you are a HUD renter receiving section 8 housing benefits you are subject to these inspections. No they cannot evict you unless you do not pay your rent, they can however, choose not to renew your lease when it ends by sending you a notice of non renewal just as you can do the same. They bought the place and did a due diligence on the complex which means they read every lease the complex has active, they know how much you pay per month, whether or not you are a good renter and they know when your lease expires. The landlord does need to provide you with notice to inspect, she needs to make an appointment, you cannot refuse her the right to enter the unit if she gives you notice first. As OWNERS of the property, the key word here is they OWN the property so yes, they can change all the locks on the doors and keep a copy of your key, how else would they enter your unit for inspections, repairs or emergencies? They will key every lock to one master key so there won't be a spare key floating around on your unit, however as long as they give you a copy of the key then they can change the locks. The cannot LOCK you out even if you do not pay rent. bottom line is, pay your rent on time and don't cause problems they will renew your lease unless they convert all units to section 8 and you don't qualify.
- They are REQUIRED to have a key. And yes, of course they can evict you. You are not eviction proof.
- Nice conversation. You can always be evicted!!!!!!! If it's to become a low income units, they probably would not evict you but if you do not qualify as low income, they may refuse to renew the lease. Landlord can inspect there property at any reasonable time they wish
- lol I love the way that conversation went. I would have just said yes, but I guess its just the principle. You have your rights. They cannot evict you for saying no, if thats what you are asking. She didnt give you a 24 hour notice, which she is required to do. But next time if notice is given, you must allow her inside. She's not going to go through personal belongings however. They are basically just checking that everything is in good working order, that you are not blocking any exit ways and the place is not a complete mess (garbage all over the place, rodents, bugs, and so forth)
- So she gives you 24 hours written notice and then you have to let her inspect your unit. Sooner not later this will happen. If you are paying market rate rent then so what if your place is not as clean as she would like it? Unless it is a clutter filled fire trap there is no grounds to evict you. Because a low income housing authority bought the place you call home, you can expect your lease to not be renewed when it is up. The purpose of this purchase is to provide low income housing to low income people. If you don't qualify then you will have to move when your lease is up.
