Does low income housing lower property values within the neighborhood?

Say if they put low income housing next to people with million dollar mansions..would these mansions lose real estate value immediately? or would the real estate value of these neighboring houses lose value in the long term?

  1. yes
  2. Yep, If I owned a million dollar home and Sanford and Son moved a junk yard in next door, I'd sell so fast
  3. ye, immediatly
  4. Of Course.
  5. Of course it does
  6. The property values would take a dive immediately and the decreasing values would continue over time.
  7. Oh yea big time think of it as deflation. You can now afford to live here. Just make sure you buy a bullet proof vest you may need it.
  8. Yes they Do, It's sad and unfair, but realistic. Lower income housing has historically lead to a degradation of the neighborhood and they ALL almost always turn into Slums. No one with any money would want to live in these areas, therefor property value goes down.
  9. Both, face it, nobody wants to live in a low income housing area.
  10. Probably, but it depends. What’s your point? There are of course a number of factors to consider in any given area. There are some areas where low income housing is situated very close to very expensive housing but the timing, the proximity to major metropolitan areas, the rest of the surrounding neighborhood, etc. are variable factors that have enabled that situation.
  11. your kidding i hope.nothing destroys property faster than low income housing.ride through some of the neighborhoods that have them.it looks like a WAR zone.no one has respect for some thing they did not earn.that is why there is less respect for america.to many free loaders.my parents would have given there right arm for an apt.like that.today they fight to see who can destroy it sooner.H.U.D.they all should be in jail.you talk about wasted MILLIONS and more MILLIONS.you can thank H.U.D for that.and there is no sign of them slowing down.they will destroy every neighborhood in the country in time.no one or no place is safe.
