if i sign a gift affidavit for my daughters apartment rental, am i legally responsible for the rent?
I am giving my daughter a monthly cash gift for her apartment rent. If I sign the gift affidavit for her to qualify, do I become legally obligated for her lease? The form basically states that I will be giving a certain amount per month up until a set date.

- You can't be responsible for the lease unless you sign it, which I expect they will ask you to.
- If you daughter can not afford the apartment on her own, the landlord...if he's sane...will require you to either sign the lease or sign as a guarantor. A gift affidavit will not cut it.
- Well, it depends on the language of the so-called "gift affidavit." The words "gift affidavit" mean nothing. What you will be signing is some sort of contract, so it all depends on what the terms of the "contract" are. If the contract is that you will be "guarantor," then you are responsible for whatever rent you daughter is legally obligated to pay, but fails to pay.
