has anyone ever got a job thru Career Builder or Monster?

I have never received a response from any job I have applied for thru either site. I HAVE however received lots of unwanted calls from MLM, insurance companies looking for commissioned sales people and found plenty bogus of jobs. If you have actually been hired thru either site, can you tell me your story? Wondering if i'm just wasting my time.

  1. Generally you will have better luck through Career Builder than Monster, although it kind of depends on where you are located and what kind of job you are looking for. In some locations for some jobs, Craigslist or local job boards are far better. A few suggestions... 1. Include a customized cover letter, 2. Follow up (the ad may say not to, but what do you have to lose?) 3. If the application includes "screening questions," (like, "why do you want to work here?") make sure your answers are good, with perfect spelling & grammar. Finally, I know this is a big additional challenge, but the best way to use job boards is only to see who is hiring. Once you know, use traditional networking to try to get a more personal foot in the door, rather than just applying online. Good luck!
