Can a person living alone qualify for Section 8 Housing Assistance?

I am a single female of twenty and I make 400 a week. My rent is 600 monthly. I don't have kids or anything. Is it possible to qualify for Section 8 Housing or am I less likely to get it because I don't have a family?

  1. You are FAR less likely to get Sec 8 assistance because you are single without a family. Preference is given to elderly, disabled, and those with families ahead of single adults. Sorry, but you will have a LONG wait on that list.
  2. No, you need to be a family, you are low income by choice, minor children are not. Besides, your share of rent on section 8 would be 534 a month, and you have to live in a place that is only 80% of average rent.....so you would not benefit anyway. Section 8 is for people who can not easily increase their own income, that would be minor children, the disabled and senior citizens.
  3. I am not sure. I am a single senior with a Section 8 voucher. No minor children. You have to qualify as long as your income is under county guidelines. Put an application in anyway. By the time you are called for a voucher your finances can change up or down.
