Does budget and deficit cutting need to start with government jobs?
Government jobs is a reflection of inefficiency, increased social spending and increased regulation. This in turn has the opposite effect on private sector jobs and the increase wages in government jobs make private employment more expensive. http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/growth-in-government-employment/ Yes this reflects on both Bush and Obama

- It's simple 1)Let the states go bankrup 2)They could then get out of their ridiculous union contracts 3) fiscal solvency 4) end of unlimited unemployment benefits
- YES.... I saw that Obama had created 250,000 new federal jobs to govern his new regulations...that is the thing with Federal regulations...you have to hire someone to police them...look at the EPA and how big it has gotten...
- No, it needs to start with Pork and tax breaks given to companies as a reward for sending jobs overseas. That amount alone would pay for 100% medical care for every person in the U.S. and have a surplus left over.
- As more jobs are being outsourced, including white collar jobs, our govt seems steady with hiring people. Whether they work for boarder patrol, or the 16,000 new IRS agents they'll need to verify every one has insurance. The govt talks about budget cuts yet some how are able to pull out millions or billions of dollars for other projects. Until the govt can get their act together with the spending, they don't need to be increasing taxes.
- Absolutely--Cut salaries in half. Take away lifetime retirement if you serve one 2 yr senate term--TERM LIMITS for all govt people--cap salaries--stop cost of living increases--and dismantle the entrenched lobbying crime ring being run by ex-govt staffers....for a start!
- Government jobs... all government jobs... are a drag on the economy because they add nothing productive in the private sector.
- Government is actually more efficient than private business. Government top dogs don't take million and billion dollar salaries the way private business does.
- We have allowed the budget to become so overly inflated fraught with waste and pet projects. It needs to be gutted down to bare bones and limit the additions. we don't need 30% of we the govt doles out. You can insert grant programs, pork, some military, fraud, bloated govt employees, redundent agencies. The Govt needs to run like a business, make cuts where they need to be to be inline with the revenue (taxes) and projected revenues.
