What career is best for me?

So, I'm the kind of person who likes to work with animals or people. But I like to have control. I'm graduating from a private boarding school a year early and I'm confused on what to major in. I'm interested in cosmetology, veterinary services, dental hygiene, nursing, fine arts, and culinary. I DO NOT want to do a lot of school, at all. I'm kind of a free spirited person. I like different results for every situation. I'd like to have one major job to make a career out of, and lots of little jobs I could do. Most likely I will end up in Vernal, Utah. So what would be good for me? I've taken a few assessment tests, but I can't seem to figure out what to go into.

  1. Have you considered law enforcement? Its a varied and challenging role involving animals and people. You could work with animals as well as protecting them. You could specialise in something to do with medicine such as forensics and it is a job with real career prospects.
  2. Dental hygiene or nursing are your best bets right now. There are plenty of careers in those fields and they pay well.
  3. Well, if you don't want to do a lot of school, dental hygiene isn't for you; you have to train for six years first to get the basic skills of dentistry and then another few to specialise, depending on what you'd like to do. Also, dental collages have limited seats, for example: Liverpool dentistry collage only has 66 seats available and to attain one of those seats, you must have outstanding results in your exams like A* ect... Veterinary services is demanding, you have to know what the animal is feeling, because it's not like it will tell you where or what is hurting, you have to know and to know, you must study. If you like control, have you considered being a teacher? Maybe catering or something creative. And I don't think that would be a lot of years training, maybe four years or so. You sound like you'd be a great teacher, if you like to be in control then you'll be able to handle class rooms, maybe you should look into it. I would recommend going to a careers office and speaking to an advisor, my brother got sent there to try and change his mind when he decided that he wanted to go into the army, but it didn't work. Good Luck.
  4. Actually, dental hygiene does not take six years. I am assuming the previous answerer is talking about dentistry, which is eight years. Anyway, dental hygiene is four years for a Bachelor's or Associate's degree. This is because you need two years of college to get accepted into the program, which is why it makes the most sense to get a Bachelor's degree. The thing is though, the field is so over saturated right now. There are NO jobs in dental hygiene. As far as nursing goes, it depends on the area. My sister had a little difficulty finding a job immediately after graduating, but found a high paying job within a few months. Cosmetology could be good, it's short (often around a year in length) but it can be somewhat expensive.
