SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT [EASY]?

I really need help with this one question I've looked at all the rules online and still don't get it. can you help me fix the subject verb agreements in this statement ? The joys of being a disk jockey at a dance club is sometimes hard to explain. At times the DJ's job, like other public preformances, results in embarrassment and stress. When somone who dosen't like your selections starts to complain loudly, for example, or when the audience you are trying so hard to please don't respond, you wish you were a waiter or even a dishwasher.

1. In the first sentence, "joys" is the subject (plural), so the main verb needs to be singular ("the JOYS of being a disk jockey at a dance club ARE sometimes ..."). "Audience" can be either singular or plural, but North Americans tend to use it in the singular form so the corresponding verb should be plural ("when the AUDIENCE you are trying so had to please DOESN'T respond ...").
