I need to find a good hotel/apartment in Melbourne city, cheap but not lacking in quality, any good reviews?

I need to stay in Melbourne in February for 2 nights with a group of friends, so four hotel rooms or possibly two apartments. I have no idea where to start so any recommendations would help. As i am paying i would love a good deal, so relatively cheap (but not backpackers cheap) Thanks.

Ibis hotel is cheap.
You could try Alto at the top of Bourke Street, or The Quest Apartments http://www.questapartments.com.au/HomePage.aspx. We usually stay at http://apartmentalkira.com.au/ which is great value, but I don't know if they have two bedroom places. Good luck!
Aparthotels is a good term to search for if you want an apartment/hotel in one. I've searched for those specifically on Yelp, but not for Australia. This website searches ALL of the hotel websites for deals: http://www.stuff4you.biz/hotels There's reviews available too on that site so you'll be able to get a good idea if the quality is good or not.
Check out Plum Apartments, Carlton. We always stay there for best value, all you need (including dishwasher), helpful staff and no bedbugs. On tram line, but we ask to be at back of building and its very quiet. We walk up to the famous Lygon Street for dinner, and love the slightly downhill walk home to walk off the pounds. Each room has its own reverse cycle AC so you can control your own.... and the windows open. check it out on the web.
