Legal age to live with roommate in Seattle?

I'm planning to go to Seattle for college next winter, and I'm still gonna be 17. Is it legal for me to find a roommate who's of age and rent a place together? Or are there any other options? (or I could find roommates on craigslist, but again, does this usually happen in the US?) Thanks!

  1. You can def find a roommate that is of age to rent a place together, though it might depend on the landlord or real estate management. I would recommend finding someone you know over Craigslist, just because you never know just how sketchy someone might be after meeting them once, and roommates get pretty intimate. It would suck to really hate your roommate and be locked into like a 6-month or yearlong lease...
  2. If you are coming over for college, it would be better to have the college help you find housing. If it's a university, they will have on-campus housing. It also sounds like you are going to be an international student, in which case they should help you find housing no matter what kind of school it is. I would start by contacting the school. Don't go through craigslist. We recently had a news story where the guy people were renting a room to (off craigslist) blew up their house because he was a sex offender and made bombs. They had no idea.
  3. It's not illegal to do that but, I would have him or her add you to the lease when you turn 18. Why don't you get college housing? Or help through the college? But if your stuck on finding a roomy, Post an add on craigslist that your looking for a roommate. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding one. I would screen them though with a lot questions. Hope fully you don't get stuck with a crazy person. I don't know where your from but Seattle has all types of people and that's not a good thing. Just my experience with the weirdos in Seattle.
  4. I'd check with the college to see if they have a student housing office where you can find a roommate match. You can't legally sign a contract until you're 18 so you won't be able to sign a lease, but other than that I don't think there will be any problem.
