I am Moving to Marin, any suggestions on affordable housing?

I live in Sonoma County but I am moving to Marin County before the years end. I know that Marin is a very expensive place to live and wanted to know of any affordable housing. Trailer Parks? Subsidized Housing? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  1. Funny. A trailer park. hahahahaha. There is subsidized housing, just like any county, but the waiting list is full, you can not even apply.
  2. Section 8 is probably closed in all bay area counties so that eliminates subsidized housing and it takes several years to get anyway. Rentals are a lot more in Marin than in Sonoma county. In Rohnert Park you can get a 1-bdrm. for $800 or $900 a month but in Marin that will cost you $1200 or $1500 a month for a 1-bdrm. Novato is cheaper and has more apartments and is only 11 miles from Petaluma. Different parts of Marin have different prices. There are some nice rentals at Hamilton Field and downtown Novato are cheaper. There is actually a mobile home park in Greenbrae but I have no idea how you get in or what it costs. In Marin a single room for rent in a house costs $700 a month. You can find a small houseboat to share in Sausalito for $500 but you lose the comfort of an apartment. I have a Section 8 housing voucher from Sonoma county in 2005 because Marin county Housing was never taking new applications except one week per year and I always missed it. I was on the waitlist for 5 years.
