Can you get section 8 housing if you own property?
My wife and I are separated. She owns the house we lived in. I am in the house with my sons. She left the property in default and is now living in section 8 housing. How can she qualify for section 8 when she owns property. My name is not on the loan and the bank will not talk to me.

- Report her to her caseworker. I am guessing she lied on her application for Sec. 8.
- Do you know for sure that she has a Section 8 voucher? Section 8 housing only means the owner has agreed to accept a voucher. This doesn't prevent the owner from renting to anyone else. Though not on the mortgage, your name is likely on the deed. Consider looking at the HUD website below for counselor to talk to, who will tell you any rights that you have. And talk with your local Social Services office about her abandonment of the children (if they are under age 18).
- You cannot get a Section 8 voucher or get into Sec 8 housing if you own a residential property that you are living in. She told Housing that you live in the house and she does not have a place to live. She may not have said she owns the property. She can lose the voucher should someone contact Housing and turn her in. How long did it take her to get a voucher because it takes several years.
