Is it legal to preclude renting to someone with a misdemeanor in WA State?

I'm looking for an apartment and found this ad on Craigslist, and they won't rent to someone with a any misdemeanors (okay, so I had a DUI 8 years ago..) IS THIS LEGAL??? http://seattle.craigslist.org/search/apa/see?query=greenwood&minAsk=min&maxAsk=800&bedrooms=1 The first link didn't work to the specific ad on Craigslist, so here is a TinyURL to the ad: http://tinyurl.com/2t96ht

  1. Generally it is legal.
  2. It is legal to set standards for apartment rentals as long as they are evenly applied, and as long as they look at convictions vs arrests, since arrest records tend to be discriminatory. 8 years ago is long enough that the conviction may not show up.
  3. that is not a protected class under fair housing law so yes that sounds legal as long as applied accross the board.
  4. First, I'm shocked that DUI is a misdemeanor. Second, it should not be legal to refuse housing to someone for misdemeanor charges. Which include such minor and unimportant things as unpaid traffic tickets. How ridiculous.
