Do you support government intervention in the housing market?

It seems like the cheaper houses are selling, and the more expensive houses are staying on the market longer; if not selling at all. I am curious as to your opinions on government intervention involving the housing market. What the cause and effect would be, and why you are for and against it. Do you have any knowledge of historical government intervention? Thank you kindly for your responses, I'm doing an in-depth report on the housing market. What can we do as consumers to help stimulate the housing market?

  2. Government intervention in the housing market is what caused the huge mess we are in now. The government needs to leave it alone, allow the market to naturally correct itself. The more they are involved the worse it is is going to get. The historical government intervention you need to remember is Bill Clinton deciding that owning a house is a right, not a privilege. Since most poor people could not own because they did not qualify for a loan he demanded that the rules to qualify be altered so that no one could be denied. It was so absurd you could even do stated income loans, where the bank has to loan you money on what you say you earn, true r or not. This both caused housing prices to sour because of increased demand, and then the crash when the entitled to buy also decided they were entitled to default on their loans.
