Can I apply for a housing authority?

I'm 17 years old. My grandparents said they would pay for my college but a place and food is my responsibility. I want to go to college for 8 years to be a veterinarian. My dad wants me out when I turn 18 which will be less than a month. Can I apply for housing authority and food stamps right now? This would just be temporary until I get a stable job.

  1. You will not qualify as a student, the tax payers do not provide student housing. To qualify for housing you need to work at least 32 hours a week. The only housing available while you are not working is a homeless shelter. The Salvation Army can direct you to the proper one for your gender. You have to sign into them nightly and leave every morning. It would make more sense to take your grandparents up on their offer and live in the dorms. You can use student loans to pay for your housing.
  2. There is no temporary government housing. You have to get a job and earn enough money to rent a room while you are in school. Check with the vet school and see if they offer some housing plan nearby. It does not take 8 years to become a vet. Forget government handouts. You can get food from a food pantry. You have to think of ways to sustain yourself without depending on anyone or government. Thats what your grandparents have in mind. That you figure out how to survive on your own.
